The first 420 hull dates back to 1958 and production began in 1960. This boat was born out of the need to replace the previous wooden hulls, which were heavy and expensive, with lighter, more economical and high-performance boats.
Today it is chosen by the majority of clubs as a double-handed class to introduce sailors to the Olympic classes. The 420 is known throughout the world and thanks to its diffusion, it was chosen by World Sailing as a two-handed discipline for the World Youth Sailing Championship. Nautivela is by far the largest manufacturer in the world and also the most successful.
